Lately I have been a bit frustrated because it seems my blog has been around for a year and has not really grown. In fact, the views have gone down a little bit, which has really frustrated me. I really like blogging and don't think I would ever quit, but it makes me wonder if I should continue busting my metaphorical balls to put up content most days if it isn't being read.
I have had the comment before that my blog is too "all over the place" for someone to engage with. I took a reader survey of you guys before and the results seemed to be that you guys liked the varied content. But, I recently was told I am making my readers work too hard to figure out if they want to read my blog.
I do really like to talk about fashion and beauty and travel, but I feel I don't really have much to add to the conversation if I just become about fashion and beauty as I am by no means an expert. But it pains me to just throw it away.
So what do you guys think? I am at a crossroads here with my low engagement. Should I create three blogs, one for fashion & beauty, one for travel and one for my general musings (I have a feeling if I cut it all down to just one topic it would become a chore and fall by the wayside)? Or should I keep it as is?
I've also been told my posts are not helpful, engaging or entertaining so people are turned off. What kind of engaging and helpful posts do you want to see? Do you feel my posts are neither engaging or entertaining? If this is your first time here, do the topics I post about not appeal to you and now you have no plans to return?
I have been told some very mixed things in my blogging career thus far, but you guys are the ones who read my blog...so I would appreciate feedback!
Some of my favorite blogs are 'all over the place' ;-) And what's entertaining for one person isn't necessarily entertaining for another. I see a difference in traffic when I spend more time on marketing than actual blogging. In the beginning it's something you have to do, I guess. Have you tried StumbleUpon. I sometimes get over 15,000 views for one post through StumbleUpon.
ReplyDeleteWhoa that's nuts! Yeah I have tried it but I don't know that my posts are as sharable as yours are. x
DeleteI personally really enjoy your blog! It's very lovely and one of the ones I check back at frequently. Keep it up!! :)

Aw thank you! x
DeleteBlog for yourself. Don't worry about what others think. If your readers love you, they will stay.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jasmine! xx
DeleteI don't read posts that don't interest me. Ie travel, but I hate it when bloggers separate blogs as I hate having to sign up to more than one per person. I'd rather just give posts that aren't my cup a tea a miss. I do the same on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteI think you shouldn't care so much about what readers think and so what you want. It's your blog!
I've never had an issue with your content :) though I hate embedded YouTube videos. Blogs should be blogs not an advert for YouTube videos. It's dull for the reader and I will be on YouTube if I want to watch a video. I read blogs when I don't want to watch
Thanks! Yeah I can understand that sentiment. Unfortunately, I feel like I need to do that so that people know about my YouTube. I'm not sure that people are watching my YouTube without me posting about it on my blog at this point, so it is kind of a toss up. xx
